Public Health Wales Screening Services

Screening is a process of identifying apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of a disease or condition. They can then be offered information, further tests and appropriate treatment to reduce their risk and/or any complications arising from the disease or condition. Screening allows for the early detection and treatment of potential health problems.
The Welsh Government provide policy direction, advice and guidance on national screening programmes for the benefit of the Welsh population click on link below for further information on the following:
  • Breast screening
  • Cervical screening
  • Bowel screening
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

From October 2023, the Bowel Screening Wales programme will begin inviting people aged 51 to 54 for the first time for bowel cancer screening. This will be implemented in a phased approach over 12 months from October 2023 to September 2024. Eligible people will be invited automatically when they are due by Public Health Wales. The programme will continue to invite those aged 55 to 74 years old
