Why have the Flu Vaccine
Flu can be very serious. It is caused by a virus and it can lead to illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia, which may need treatment in hospital.
- There are outbreaks of flu most winters, especially in hospitals and care homes.
- In a normal winter, thousands of people will die from flu-related illnesses in the UK.
- Having a flu vaccine every year is one of the best ways to protect against flu.
- Flu vaccines are quick and very safe and could prevent weeks of serious illness
Eligibility
If you come under the following categories, you are eligible for the vaccine
- Children aged two and three years on 31 August 2024
- All patients over 65 years old
- Carers
- Pregnant Women
- Patients with learning disabilities
- Immunosuppressed
- Healthcare workers
- Patients under 65 years old with the following chronic conditions
- Chronic Respiratory Disease (Asthma/COPD)
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- Diabetes
- Chronic Heart Disease
- Chronic Liver Disease
- Chronic Neurological Disease (Parkinson's disease, MND)
- Asplenia or dysfunction of the Spleen
- Morbidly Obese - Patients over 16 with a Body Mass Index of 40 or more
NOTE: Strictly for eligible patients between the ages of 18 and 64 years old and all over 65 years old.
