Why have the Flu Vaccine

Flu can be very serious. It is caused by a virus and it can lead to illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia, which may need treatment in hospital.

• There are outbreaks of flu most winters, especially in hospitals and care homes.
• In a normal winter, thousands of people will die from flu-related illnesses in the UK.
• Having a flu vaccine every year is one of the best ways to protect against flu.
• Flu vaccines are quick and very safe and could prevent weeks of serious illness

Eligibility

If you come under the following categories, you are eligible for the vaccine

• Children aged two and three years on 31 August 2024
• All patients over 65 years old
• Carers
• Pregnant Women
• Patients with learning disabilities
• Immunosuppressed
• Healthcare workers
• Patients under 65 years old with the following chronic conditions
  • Chronic Respiratory Disease (Asthma/COPD)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic Heart Disease
  • Chronic Liver Disease
  • Chronic Neurological Disease (Parkinson's disease, MND)
  • Asplenia or dysfunction of the Spleen
  • Morbidly Obese  - Patients over 16 with a Body Mass Index of 40 or more

NOTE: Strictly for eligible patients between the ages of 18 and 64 years old and all over 65 years old.
